GISSELLA SANTINI
14 JUNE- 31 AUGUST
Gissella shapes delightful, poetic, or playful rodents in clay, which always have a slightly eccentric character.
Gissella Santini Ducommun was born in Colombia, where she trained as a ceramicist at the Universidad de la Sabana in Bogotá. Alongside this, she took modeling courses at the Carmen Currea de Sicard school. In 1988, she came to Switzerland, where she continued her training at Atelier Potter in Carouge – a workshop where she still works today. Since then, she has exhibited continuously in galleries and at fairs.Gissella shapes delightful, poetic, or playful rodents in black (sometimes red) clay, which always have a slightly eccentric character. Created from earthenware, sometimes with the addition of a few colorful accents, and fired at 1170 degrees, the result is highly expressive thanks to the fine details in poses and facial expressions.Gissella draws inspiration for her quirky bestiary by recalling the stories she read to her children when they were small. It's no wonder, then, that her rodents wear coats, carry bouquets of wildflowers as if they've just returned from a walk – or even dress up as pandas.
